This calculator estimates what a flight payment plan costs in total — not just the monthly figure the checkout screen shows you. The difference between those two numbers is the entire point of comparing a plan before you accept it.

How to use it

  1. Enter the fare you are looking at.
  2. Add any upfront payment the plan requires — on most point-of-sale plans this is the first installment, taken at checkout.
  3. Enter the number of installments you are offered.
  4. Enter the APR. If the plan is described as interest-free, leave it at 0.

The result shows the total you actually repay and how much of that is cost above the fare. If the last figure is zero, the plan costs you nothing beyond the ticket price.

Why the total is the number that matters

A monthly payment tells you what fits your budget. It does not tell you what the trip costs. A plan can show a comfortable monthly figure and still add a substantial amount over a year — which is exactly why the total is the only line that should decide your answer.

The most common mistake is comparing two plans by their monthly payments when they have different lengths. A lower monthly payment on a longer plan almost always means a higher total.

What this calculator cannot tell you

  • Whether you will be approved. Approval depends on the provider's criteria and your credit file. Shorter plans generally have lower approval bars.
  • Whether a hard credit check applies. Some plans use a soft check that leaves no mark; longer financing products usually use a hard check, which is recorded.
  • The exact APR you will be offered. The rate shown at checkout depends on your approval terms — enter the real figure once you see it.
  • Late fees or missed-payment terms. Those are separate from the interest calculation and are worth reading before you agree.

This is an estimate for comparison, not a quote. Treat it as a way to check an offer rather than a prediction of one.

Compare the alternatives before you commit

A payment plan is one of several ways to spread the cost. Worth pricing alongside it:

  • A 0% introductory APR credit card — if you hold one and can clear the balance before the promotional period ends, this is usually the cheapest route of all. Enter an APR of 0 here to see how it compares.
  • A shorter plan — a "pay in 4" style schedule over six weeks is frequently interest-free. If it fits, it beats any interest-bearing alternative.
  • Shifting your travel dates — a mid-week departure often saves more than the financing costs, with no loan attached.
  • A cheaper fare — a different airline or a one-stop itinerary can remove the need to finance at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a flight payment plan?

Divide the balance after your upfront payment by the number of installments to get the monthly figure. If the plan charges interest, the total will be higher — enter the APR above to see by how much. The number to compare is the total repaid, not the monthly payment.

Is it cheaper to pay in full or use a payment plan?

Paying in full is always cheaper when the plan charges interest. An interest-free plan costs the same either way, so the choice there is purely about cash flow. Use the calculator to see the difference on the specific plan you are offered.

What APR do flight payment plans charge?

Short point-of-sale plans over about six weeks are usually 0%. Longer plans spanning several months to a year typically carry an APR somewhere in the 10–30% range depending on the provider and your approval terms. The rate must be disclosed before you agree.

Does a flight payment plan require a credit check?

Shorter plans often use a soft credit check, which does not affect your score. Longer financing products usually require a hard check, which is recorded on your credit file and can have a small temporary effect. The provider must disclose which applies before you accept.

What happens if I cancel the flight but keep paying?

The airline refund and the financing agreement are separate contracts. Cancelling a flight may not cancel the loan — depending on the provider, you could receive a refund from the airline while still owing the remaining installments. Read the provider's cancellation terms before you book anything you might cancel.

Is this calculator free to use?

Yes, and it runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us or stored — the calculation happens on your device.
